 Kornelia Ender biography

Kornelia Ender, (born October 25, 1958, Plauen, East Germany [now Germany]), East German swimmer who was the primary lady to win 4 gold medals at a single Olympics.

Ender’s pure capability was noticed when she was a baby enjoying on household holidaysand she or he was educated from a younger age by demanding East German coaches who included weight lifting in her coaching. She was 13 years previous when she received two silver medals on the 1972 Olympics in Munich, West Germany. At the 1976 Games in Montreal, at age 17, she received 4 gold medals (within the 100-metre freestyle, the 200-metre freestyle, the 100-metre butterfly, and the 4 × 100-metre medley relay) and a silver medal (within the 4 × 100-metre freestyle relay). In three of the occasions she set new world data (all since damaged) and within the fourth equaled an current world file. Though Ender had wonderful freestyle and butterfly strokes, it was her sturdy begins and professional turns that almost all usually made the distinction in her victories. Her Olympic gold medals have been the primary received by an East German lady swimmer. She retired quickly after the Olympics, having damaged 23 world data in her profession.

During the 1976 Olympics there have been many accusations that Ender and her teammates had been utilizing unlawful performance-enhancing anabolic steroids. In 1991 numerous East German coaches admitted that a few of the girls swimmers had been given steroids, though Ender was by no means named. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1981.
