 Björn Borg biography

Björn Borg, in full Björn Rune Borg, (born June 6, 1956, Stockholm, Sweden), Swedish tennis participant who was one of many best opponents of the trendy period. He was the primary man to win the Wimbledon singles championship 5 successive occasions (1976–80) since Laurie Doherty (1902–06). He gained the French Open males’s singles championship an unprecedented 4 occasions in a row and 6 occasions in all (1974–75, 1978–81).

Borg realized to play tennis at a really early age, and, by the point he was 13, he was beating Sweden’s high junior gamers. Noted for his highly effective serve and two-handed backhand, Borg joined the skilled circuit at age 14 and went on to win the Italian Open at 17 and the French Open at 18. In 1975 he helped Sweden win its first Davis Cup, and by that point he had gained 16 consecutive cup singles, passing Bill Tilden’s document of 12. By the spring of 1981, when he lastly misplaced at Wimbledon to John McEnroe, Borg had gained 41 singles matches and 5 championships in a row, a document by no means beforehand set. Borg, nonetheless, proved unable to ever win two of the 4 Grand Slam occasions, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open.

In January 1983 Borg abruptly introduced his retirement from skilled tennis, although he did try a short-lived comeback in 1991. Borg based a profitable sportswear firm within the early Nineteen Nineties. He wrote, with Eugene Scott, Björn Borg: My Life and Game (1980). In 1987 Borg was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
