 Jessica Ennis-Hill biography

Jessica Ennis-Hill, in full Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, née Jessica Ennis, (born January 28, 1986, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England), English track-and-field athlete who, on the 2012 London Olympic Games, received a gold medal within the heptathlon.

In 1996 Ennis participated in her first track-and-field competitors. Her first main worldwide heptathlon victory was in 2005 on the European junior championships. In 2006 she received a bronze medal on the Commonwealth Games and positioned eighth on the European championships. A fourth-place end on the 2007 IAAF world championships raised Ennis’s prospects for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, however she suffered stress fractures in her proper foot that saved her from the Games that 12 months. Meanwhile, she accomplished a level in psychology (2007) on the University of Sheffield.

After the damage Ennis switched to a left-leg takeoff for the excessive bounce and the lengthy bounce. The adjustment helped her take the gold on the 2009 world championships. Although Ennis received the 2010 European championships with 6,823 factors, she misplaced the world title and the highest rating in 2011 to Russian rival Tatyana Chernova. (However, Ennis was awarded the world championship in 2016 after Chernova was stripped of her title for having doped through the 2011 season.) Ennis rebounded the next 12 months on the London Games. In addition to setting a world heptathlon report (12.54 seconds) within the 100-metre hurdles, Ennis, together with her top of 1.26 metres (5 toes 4 1/2 inches), grew to become the shortest lady to win a gold medal within the seven-event competitors. In 2013 Ennis was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and married Andy Hill.

Ennis-Hill missed the 2014 monitor season, having given delivery to a son. She returned in 2015 and certified for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, the place she received a silver medal within the heptathlon. Ennis-Hill retired from athletics shortly after the Rio Games. The following 12 months she was formally made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE).
