Jock Sutherland, byname of John Bain Sutherland, (born March 21, 1889, Coupar Angus, Scot.—died April 11, 1948, Pittsburgh, Pa., U.S.), American collegiate {and professional} soccer coach who in a 24-year profession had groups who received 144 video games, misplaced 28, and tied 14. His University of Pittsburgh groups (1924–38) had 4 unbeaten seasons, produced 18 All-American gamers, received a nationwide championship (1937) and performed in 4 Rose Bowl video games (1928, 1930, 1933, and 1937).

Raised in Scotland, the place he performed soccer, Sutherland got here to Pittsburgh on the age of 18, and received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh dental faculty (D.D.S., 1918) after research at Oberlin (Ohio) Academy. At the college he performed guard (1915–17) underneath the teaching of Pop Warner; the workforce received 25 consecutive video games and went undefeated in 1916–17.
